Timescales
Immigration processing times in the UK vary depending on the type of application and whether it’s submitted from within or outside the UK:
- Non-settlement visa applications: Most applications are decided within 3 weeks to 6 weeks
- Settlement visa applications: Most applications submitted outside the UK are decided within 12 weeks to 24 weeks
- Leave to remain applications: Applications submitted within the UK are decided within 8 weeks
- Indefinite leave to remain (ILR) applications: Applications submitted within the UK are decided within 6 months
- No time limit (NTL) applications: Applications submitted within the UK are decided within 6 months
- Work visas: Applications for graduate, overseas domestic worker, high potential individual (HPI), and UK ancestry visas are typically decided within 8 weeks
- Family visas: Applications made from outside the UK are usually decided within 24 weeks
- Marriage visitor visas: Applications are usually decided within 3 weeks after attending an appointment
- First-tier tribunal appeals: The average time to resolve an appeal is 40 weeks, but processing time depends on the type of appeal
- Citizenship applications: Applications are usually decided within 6 months, but some can take longer
- Sponsorship applications: Applications are usually decided within 5 weeks.
